There are many therapy modalities that target depression. We are not going to be able to talk about all of them.
Talk Therapy is a major part of most treatment plans for Depression.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, is the most widely used form of talk therapy. It seems simple in theory but can be very hard to implement. Changing thought processes is not easy.
THOUGHT CREATES EMOTION, EMOTION CREATES BEHAVIOR
We talk to ourselves every day. That self-talk is an important part of our Psychology. What are we saying to ourselves? Good things or bad. Are we optimistic or pessimistic? Do we dwell on things, even small things?
There are usually patterns to our thoughts. And we are good at finding things to validate our thoughts.
Other therapy modalities:
Interpersonal Therapy, IPT. This is a short-term therapy that focuses on Interpersonal Patterns that cause hardships.
Problem Solving Therapy. It is a Cognitive Behavioral approach that focuses on a specific problem, as well as identifying and improving coping skills.
EMDR: This modality usually focuses on Trauma. It is very useful in working with PTSD.
